Addition of Decimals

Place the decimal points under each other, and add as in integers.

Examples:

(1) Required the sum of 3676.1, 37.049, 160.63, 12.3645

Macdonald was not paying attention to what he was copying. The first two numbers 3676.1 and 37.049 are part of the second example. Here is Macdonald’s answer.

  32.035

116.374

160.63

  12.3645

321.4035

(2) Required the sum of 3676.1, 37.049, 188.27, 57642.00818, 390., 549.782

Again, Macdonald was not paying attention to what he was copying. The last number, 549.782 is written as 594.782 in the column for summation. The answer is correct when the number 549.782 is used.

  3676.1

      37.049

    188.27

57642.00818

    390.

    594.782
